A new connected ecosystem for researchers in the fields of cell biology, cancer, microbiology, microbiome, diabetes, and immunology. The Bakar Research and Academic Building will encourage multidisciplinary collaboration, with close proximity to UCSF Health patient care to rapidly advance discoveries from laboratories to patients’ bedsides.

New Home for the
School of Nursing
The UCSF School of Nursing will have a brand new home base at the Parnassus Heights campus, including new administrative space and best-in-class teaching, learning and training spaces to advance the next generation of nurse leaders and researchers.

This thoughtful campus-community integration begins with an inviting entrance on Parnassus Avenue and extends to outdoor gathering areas, a grand staircase and adjacent elevator for hillside access, and a sheltered overlook to enjoy the striking westward views.

From Idea to Implementation: A Project Timeline
- 2022: The new building project is approved by The Regents of the University of California
- 2022: Demolition of UC Hall begins
- 2023: Building design, financing, and budget is approved
- 2024: Groundbreaking ceremony, construction begins
- 2025: The building takes shape as structural construction progresses, interior build out begins
- 2026: Construction continues
- 2027: Construction ends, departments move into new building
- 2028: Grand opening and dedication ceremony
